Mexico will host the APEC 2028 summit. "A bridge between the Americas and Asia."

" Mexico will host APEC after many years. This will allow us to be a bridge between the Americas and Asia. The entire Pacific basin will be in Mexico by 2028," revealed the Mexican Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, in a statement quoted today by the Spanish news agency EFE.
This announcement marks Mexico's return as host of the summit after more than two decades. APEC brings together 21 economies from Asia and the Pacific, including China and the United States, which together account for more than 60% of GDP and about half of global trade.
"The fact that they voted in favor of Mexico as the host in 2028 demonstrates the importance they attach to our country," added Ebrard, who highlighted the international recognition of President Claudia Sheinbaum's government.
"It is a great recognition of President Claudia Sheinbaum's work, the way she is managing her relationship with the United States, the successes and progress she has achieved with her Plan Mexico, and the figure she represents," the Mexican official emphasized.
During his stay in South Korea, Ebrard held bilateral meetings with senior U.S. government officials, including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, as well as Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
"We have made progress in some talks with the United States. We are on the right track," said the Secretary of Economy, explaining that both sides are working on eliminating trade problems with a view to revising the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (USMCA), which should take place next year.
"We had a good conversation about how we're going to move forward in the coming weeks [...] most likely we'll meet again in Washington in the next few days," Ebrard added.
